Last weekend, the second season of Roomies premiered at Film Fest Gent. Actresses Laura De Geest and Ahlaam Teghadouini (who won a 'Gouden Kalf' in the Netherlands last week), who play Ama and Bibi, shined on the red carpet alongside the other cast and the directors. Roomies 2 is now available to binge watch on VRT MAX.
The second season of the funny and moving fiction series by Flo Van Deuren and Kato De Boeck takes us to the next step in the lives of Bibi and Ama, and to their new, unexpected home: an old nursery building. With the structure of school gone and their wallets empty, they tumble headlong into adult life - no child's play. The result is eight new episodes that, like the main characters, have matured but remain just as funny and moving as before.
The second season of Roomies also sees the return of the series' award-winning music. This time with a powerful soundtrack featuring Eefje de Visser, Ategha (Ahlaam Teghadouini) & Mickael Karkousse (Goose), Maria Iskariot, and Porcelain ID, among others.
The soundtrack of season 1 won the Ensor award for Best Music in a Film or Series in 2023. Like the first season, the second season premiered at Film Fest Gent, a festival with a strong focus on music in films and series.
The soundtrack is a mix of original songs by emerging talent and established artists, combined with an original score by composer Mick Lemaire. There is a remarkable collaboration between Ahlaam Teghadouini (lead actress Bibi in the series) and Mickael Karkousse from Goose. For Ahlaam, it is her first release.
Mickael Karkousse: “Whatever Happens” came about in a very organic way, and you can hear that. Unfiltered, sincere, and unforced. Which is unique, because we didn't know each other until a few days before. Ahlaam walked into the studio and said, ‘I've prepared something’. I thought that opening line was fantastic in itself and immediately showed a lot of self-confidence and daring. ‘Perfect,’ I thought. Then we turned the volume up to maximum and I listened as Ahlaam sang close to my ear. Instant goosebumps!
Eefje de Visser is omnipresent and could not be left off the soundtrack of Roomies 2. The day before the premiere of Roomies, her own album Vlijmscherp was also released:
“(Tijdbom) Tikkend is a dark, electronic track in which there is a constant running: sometimes away from the other person, sometimes towards them. The feeling of running out of time, losing each other and wanting to find each other again. I thought that game of attraction and repulsion fitted in well with Roomies, where relationships, drama and fun are always intertwined.” Eefje de Visser
Mounir Hathout (Sonhouse) - music supervisor for Roomies 1 and 2: It's a luxury to be able to link Belgian artists to the series together with directors Flo and Kato. There is so much talent in Belgium that we don't even have to consider foreign artists. For us, the songs for Roomies are an ode to Belgian music.
