Gilles Coulier’s debut feature will compete in the New Directors programme, an international competition for first and second feature films, at the 65th San Sebastian International Film Festival.
The film marks the debut feature of VAF Wildcard winner Coulier, who previously directed shorts such as Iceland (2009), Paroles (2010) and Mont Blanc (2013). Iceland and Mont Blanc were selected for the Cannes Film Festival, in the Cinéfondation competition and the Official Competition respectively.
Cargo will open the Ostend Film Festival (where Coulier’s shorts also screened) on 8 September, and will be released in Belgium five days later. The film was produced by Coulier, Gilles De Schryver and Wouter Sap for production company De Wereldvrede, and co-produced by Halal Pictures (Netherlands), Chevaldeuxtrois (France), and Belgium’s public broadcast channel Eén.
